Write Back
Book covers
Write Back is a charity that helps young people (aged 13 to 16) to develop the confidence and capacity to tell their own story. Each cohort is given a theme to interpret in their own way and at the end of their 10-week programme, their written work is published in book format. For the past two years, we have been working with our long-term collaborator, Lisa Pember, and the young storytellers to bring their book cover ideas to life, adding value to each publication through the application of professional design and illustration.
What we did
Concept development, design, illustration, and artwork
Copies of each Write Back book are held in school and local libraries and also in the archive of the Bishopsgate Institute, where Special Collections and Archives Manager, Stefan Dickers, describes them as ‘narratives that historians will find invaluable in understanding the social and cultural life of London and beyond at the beginning of the 21st century.’
It’s wonderful to see such positive endorsements for Write Back’s young storytellers. And on our own part, we are pleased to receive fantastic feedback, both from the charity and those it serves:
‘It is amazing to see the care and attention that you put into bringing the young people’s ideas to life. We tell young people that their stories matter but so often it is when they receive their own printed book that this message truly lands. Having their writing and ideas bound up in a beautiful professionally designed book honours their voices and proves to them that their words should be taken seriously’.
