The Woodland Trust

Jubilee Trail
Visitor engagement and information
We were charged with the task developing a family-friendly visitor experience to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – and to do so fast, in time for a planned visit by HRH Anne, Princess Royal. Plus is needed to be ‘self-directed’; able to function without support from on-site staff.

What we did
Project management, concepts, design, illustration

Our solution was to capitalise on a quieter area of the site, known as the Royal Groves, by develop a trail and accompanying assets. We used the visual device of tree rings to draw a parallel between the ages of the trees and specific periods in the Queen’s reign. These were further enlivened by specific ‘moments in history’, from the release of the first Beatles Album, through the discovery of DNA to the Woodland Trust’s 50th Birthday. This turned a pleasant stroll through the Groves into an engaging encounter with living history.

Walking towards membership
The assets we created ranged from on-site signposting to promotional posters, including seven site-specific posters each showcasing a different decade in the Queen’s reign. The final poster was more forward-looking and included a membership call to action for the Woodland Trust.

We also devised and produced an accompanying quiz sheet to make the whole experience more interactive.
